Lisa’s Picks
1. Naturepedic Organic Mattresses (baby and child)
I didn’t know much about organic mattresses until after my son was born. By the time we transitioned him from the crib to a full size bed I had a solid understanding of the benefits. Making it an easy decision to hook him up with the Naturepedic 2-in-1 organic mattress. The waterproof side has saved us so many times with night accidents. All of Naturepedic mattresses are made with natural organic materials inside as well as outside. I love knowing the mattress is safe from wet nights and my son is safe from coming in contact with toxic chemicals. The same goes for their crib mattresses and are the first ones we source for a nursery client.
Child Mattress: 2-in-1 Reversible The 2-in-1 Organic Kids Mattress features firm support, ideal for your growing child or teen. The mattress is highly versatile, combining waterproof and quilted sides for an ideal children's mattress. Use the waterproof side when they first come out of the crib and while they're training.
Crib: Mattress: Lightweight 2 Stage The 2-stage dual firmness option provides a firmer side for infants and a medium-firm side for growing toddlers. Switching over is as easy as flipping the mattress. The Organic Cotton Classic is uniquely designed to provide long-lasting support with a solid, easy-to-clean design
2. Knotly Handcrafted - 4-Tier Macrame "Hanging" Bookshelf
I custom designed this bookshelf with an Etsy vendor a few years ago for a client. We wanted lots of book storage with a light Boho style. I love how it looks like it’s hanging from the beautiful macrame – when in fact each shelf is easily anchored for added security. This piece is made using natural, organic cotton rope and the wood finishings were simply wax and mineral oil - also non toxic.
3. Serena + Lily - Harper Denim Rug
Another piece I have to keep from sourcing for too many clients is this cool denim rug. The combo of vintage denim in random washes creating a grande texture is perfect for forgiving stains and dirt in the nursery or kid's room. And like a favorite pair of jeans it gets softer with time. This rug pleases me and clients even more since it is made of 75% recycled denim, mixed with 25% soft wool.
4.) Bearby - Eco-Velvet Napper Weighted Blanket
In my family there is a remarkable love of diving under comfy blankets and throws. We have also seen the sleep benefits of weighted blankets first hand. The weight on your body stimulates the production of serotonin (the happy hormone), reduces cortisol (the stress hormone), and increases melatonin, which helps you fall (and stay) asleep. Pretty perfect for children and parents alike. This specific style is beautifully crafted from a rich Eco-velvet. Unlike typical velvet, the sustainable Eco-velvet is made from recycled marine plastic, preventing 900 plastic bottles from polluting our oceans.
About the author:
Lisa Janvrin is the founder of YouthfulNest, an easy online interior design services for baby and children’s rooms. Lisa’s life and career did not follow the straight and narrow. In fact, if her life and career were a fabric print it would resemble something more like a zig-zag pattern. Her worldy travels are one of her most treasured experiences. At age 35 she found herself back in the Midwest (Omaha, Nebraska this time) for love and eventually marriage. The birth of her son and one late night conversation with old friends about doing what you love spurred another career zag—YouthfulNest.
